What I’m watching thanks to the internet

South Bucks-20140124-00783

This time last week I asked for some help as I had 44 films sitting on my shelf that I hadn’t got round to watching and really felt that I needed to try and clear that backlog. After asking the internet for suggestions, I was advised the seventeen films that I should most definitely watch as soon as possible.

So here are the films along with the number of people who said I should watch said film:

Drive (2011) – 6
Labyrinth (1986) – 4
Scarface (1983) – 3
Tinker Tailor Solider Spy (2011) – 3
Australia (2008) – 2
Carlito’s Way (1993) – 2
Platoon (1986) – 2
Pretty in Pink (1986) – 2
Rain Man (1988) – 2
Casino (1995) – 1
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) – 1
Malcolm X (1992) – 1
Marvel’s Thor: Tales of Asgard (2011) – 1
Mean Streets (1973) – 1
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) – 1
Punisher: War Zone (2008) – 1
Troy (2004) – 1

Over the last few days I’ve watched Drive (which I loved) and Labyrinth (which I liked well enough but I’m guessing it’s one of those films that when you watch it from a young age you end up loving it and it has a special place in your heart.) I think this weekend I’m going to continue making my way through this list as I have no immediate deadlines and just some reading to do for class.

I do like how it’s quite an eclectic mix so I shouldn’t get bored. I do think actually getting people’s recommendations is a great idea as when I’m staring at my shelf full of DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s I often have no idea where to start. Obviously I bought the film in the first place so there was something about it that I liked whether that was an actor or the plot, but it’s been so long that I don’t have that craving to watch them. So being told what’s good (in their opinion) helps me realise why I bought the film in the first place and to find a film that may become my new favourite.
