31 Days of Blogging – Completed

South Bucks-20140131-00791I’ve succeeded in one of my New Year’s resolutions! I have now blogged every single day of January – 31 days of posts from me about whatever interested me that day. I’ve covered films, awards, things that happened to me that day, reviews, theatre, my many DVD’s, TV, and music. During these past 31 days I’ve learnt a lot about myself and also blogging so here’s the main things that I’ve discovered.

I have the time to blog everyday

I do have the time to take half an hour or so out my day to write about something that interests me. At the start of the month I was posting my blogs at about 11:53pm and only just managing to get in there before the day was over but I soon learnt how to manage my time. After the first few days I easily figured out when was the best time for me to blog – sometimes it was early in the morning, others it was the afternoon. It was all down to managing what I’d got on that day, for instance I’d post a blog in the morning if I knew I was going to be out most of the day/evening and was unsure if or when I’d have the time later on that day to get that blog post up. I’ve always been pretty good at managing my time but this has month has definitely helped me perfect that skill.

Thinking of something to blog about every day is hard.

Some days I really struggled to think of something I wanted to talk about, nothing happened in the world of film that I wanted to comment on, nothing that interesting had happened in my life – I’m pretty sure it’s quite easy to tell which blog posts I wrote while scraping the bottom of the metaphorical barrel. Over this past month I’ve grown to respect those who do manage to blog every single day. While I am definitely pleased that I have blogged for a month I’m looking forward to now just blogging (at least) once a week.

I know understand how WordPress works

Before blogging through the month of January I had written a total of twelve blog posts between July and December 2013 and three of those were film or book lists. In those six months I never really tried to properly learn how WordPress works, how you can search for other blogs using keywords, how you can see your blogs stats (which I am endless fascinated by), or how to even comment on someone’s blog. I have a much better understanding of this site and with that understanding I think I will be able to make the most of it; making connections and learning about different peoples interests.

 I am rather organised

Often when I posted a blog at 9am it wasn’t because I had got up early and written it all then and there – it was because I’d written the blog the day before. I did this a couple of times, writing my thoughts and ideas on a topic and then simply having a read through and edit before posting it the following day. It meant that I didn’t have to be thinking every hour of every single day of something to write and to post – I’d already done it!

When I get an idea I really should write it down

This happened to me a couple of times. I’d be lying in bed trying to get to sleep, thinking about various things and then I’d have an idea of a blog post and I would kind of write it in my mind. Unfortunately, I would soon fall asleep and then the next morning have that awful feeling that I’d forgotten something rather important or interesting. I have missed out on at least two possible blog ideas because of this. I have now left a notepad and pen by my bed for when this’ll no doubt happen again.

So that’s just some of the things I’ve learnt from blogging for an entire month. I have also learnt that I can still miss out some silly spelling errors even when I write the blog in Word beforehand (I am a terrible English graduate) and I’ve found that I enjoy blogging, even when I’m struggling for something to write about I enjoying trying to think of anything that I could possibly put into words onto my blog.

From now on I’m going to be blogging at least once a week – I feel like I should choose one day and stick with it just to have that professional, organised quality about the whole thing. OK! I’ve decided that I shall be blogging every Thursday (at least) and if a lot is happening that I’m interested in I’ll blog on another day as well. Maybe later on in the year I’ll challenge myself to another month of blogging… but that definitely won’t be for a while. I’m super happy that I’ve succeeded with one of my New Year’s resolutions – now I have nine more to get through…

See you on Thursday!
