R is for: Favourite Films Beginning with the Letter R

(You can tell the days/letters I have trouble thinking of a topic – this is what happens) So without further ado here are my favourite films beginning with the letter R!

Remember the Titans (2000)IMG-20140421-00976
I have a bit of a soft spot for sports movies and this is one of my favourites. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a film starring Denzel Washington and Remember the Titans is definitely one of my favourites. It’s a wonderful snapshot of history as well as having some great American football matches that pulls you in.

RocknRolla (2008)
Love this film so much! It has some of the best characters ever and I love heist/gangster movies and RocknRolla fits the bill. It’s funny, smartly filmed and just brilliant. (I thought I had my DVD here at Uni with me but when looking at my shelf realised I must have left it at home – now I’m sad.)

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
I grew up on this film and always watch it whenever it’s on TV whether it has just started or only got half an hour left. Even though Kevin Costner doesn’t even attempt an English accent he is my favourite Robin Hood and the one that always first comes to mind.

Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002)
This is a brutal, heart-breaking film about three young girls trying to find their way home in the Australian outback. It’s all the more sad but great because it’s based on a true story. People really are horrible sometimes.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Who doesn’t love Inidana Jones?! Just the beginning of the film with the big rolling boulder is enough for me to love this film and Indiana Jones himself.

Requiem for a Dream (2000)
I’ve only seen this film once but it had such an effect on me I had to mention it. This film is creepy and unsettling and brilliantly filmed and really makes you think. It also has a fridge that terrifies me.

Robocop (1987)
I grew up watching this film (although not from the very beginning – my mother wasn’t that cruel) I love the themes of this film and the fact that it’s set in a really gritty dystopian Detroit. The violence is overly gory (It was the 80’s what do you expect) but I also love the relationship between Murphy and Lewis.

Real Steel (2011)IMG-20140421-00980
This film surprised me. I thought the trailer gave a lot of what happened away but it didn’t so that’s always a nice surprise. I really liked the relationship between Charlie (Hugh Jackman) and Max (Dakota Goyo) and while some child actors can be bad/annoying I thought Goyo was pretty good.

Rush (2013)
I love this film a lot even though I know next to nothing about F1. The relationship between James Hunt and Niki Lauda is portrayed brilliantly by Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl. The racing scenes are interesting and pull you in (even though it’s just cars going around a track) and there’s the perfect balance between tension and emotion throughout the film.

The Road to El Dorado (2000)
This film is beautiful, funny and a little weird. I probably like it so much because me and my best friend have figure out that we are Miguel and Tulio (she’s Miguel, I’m Tulio)

  1. You picked some great movies here. I love Remember the Titans, and I remember when Real Steel came out I didn’t really want to see it but it was way better than I thought. Great picks!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, same! I never saw Real Steel at the cinema, just ended up getting the DVD. I thought it might be an easy watch type film but I ended up liking it more than I thought I would.
