TOP TEN TUESDAY: Top Ten Goals For 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature run by BrokeAndBookish each week – I’m thinking I might not take part every week but just see if a week takes my fancy.
Here are my goals for next year, they’re mostly related to my reading habits, film-watching and blogging.

Read & review 50 books
I actually read a lot more this year than in previous year thanks to finishing Uni and discovering comic books and graphic novels. I read over 60 books this year and reviewed about half of that so I’m hopeful that reading and reviewing 50 books next year isn’t too much of a stretch.

Watch and review my Clint Eastwood boxset
My mum got me a Clint Eastwood box set for my birthday in September and I haven’t had the chance to watch any of them yet. There’s over 30 films in there – both films he’s starred in and films he’s directed – and I’ve seen only two of them before. Maybe I’ll watch and review one a week but I definitely want to have seen them all by the end of 2015.

Continue posting a blog every week
This past year my goal was to post a blog every Thursday and I nearly managed that and if I didn’t make it on a Thursday, I posted a blog another day that week. I’m not going to be giving myself the strict deadline of Thursday in 2015, I just definitely want to post a blog at least once a week at any point during the week.

Watch and review the James Bond films
I bought myself the blu-ray box set of the James Bond collection as a Christmas present – it was just £50, how could I resist? I’ve seen the Piers Brosnan and Daniel Craig Bond films but years ago so it’ll be great to go back to the start with them all.

Get a full time job in Film PR
I’ve currently got a three month contract at a Film PR company which I love, I don’t know if after the three months I’ll have a permanent position with them *finger crossed I do though* so I’m still looking for other jobs. I want to finish 2015 in a full-time, permanent job that I really enjoy.

Take part in the A-Z in April blogging challenge
I completed the A-Z in April blogging challenge this year and really enjoyed it. I definitely want to do it this year and I’m already thinking about a theme.

Get my unwatched DVD’s list down
I have a bit of a problem when buying DVD’s and Blu-ray’s as I am very easily persuaded that I need to buy five at a time. It’s great, I love having a huge film collection but that does mean I have a lot of unwatched films. At last count I’ve got just over 100 unwatched films and I really need to get that down.

Get my To Be Read pile down
I’ve got about 50 unread books and I definitely want to get my pile down by the end of 2015. I’m not going to stop myself buying books but I definitely want to end 2015 with less books on my TBR than when I start it.

Read more diversely
Looking through my Books of 2014 list, less than half the books I read were by women – I think this may be (in part) down to the fact I’ve read so many graphic novels and that industry is quite male-dominated – and I only read two books written by people of colour which is just not good enough. That being said, the list goes up to five when including people of colour who worked as artists on some of the graphic novels I’ve read – but still not good enough. To help me with this I’m going to check out the Book Riot Read Harder challenge and try and use that to prompt me to read things I wouldn’t normally try.

Watch as many of the Oscar nominated films as possible
Last year I managed to watch all the films that were up for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress at the Oscars. The reason I managed it was because I lived at a University that was a 15 minute walk away from a cinema, now I have to drive at least half an hour to get to a cinema and I’m working and commuting during the week there’s less time to go to the cinema so I doubt I’ll be able to watch them all but I’d still like to see as many as possible.

  1. Wow! You have a lot of films, I’m always looking for good film recommendations. What are your favorites? Also, I really like the idea of reading more diversely. It’s a bad habit, but I don’t usually think about the author when I pick up a book, but I’m sure if I check I haven’t read nearly as diversely as I’d like. I think that goal just entered my list for 2015 too. Thanks!
    Great list!

    1. Haha! I’ve been growing my collection over the past few years, I’m a huge fan of boxsets so that definitely helps make the number of films go up considerably. Oh gosh! I recently watched Gone Baby Gone and loved it, other current favourites are Nightcrawler, The Lord of the Rings, Unstoppable (Denzel Washington and Chris Pine film), To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar is also brilliant. I’m going to be posting my Top 10 films of 2014 tomorrow – which has been really tough to narrow down.

Yeah it’s really easy to pick up books because they’re poplar without considering who the author is, glad it’s made it onto your list. 🙂

    1. Yeah, there’s so many films coming out soon that should be nominated – as a Brit a lot of possible Oscar-contenders aren’t released till January/February. Yeah that’s true I’ve been to both Edinburgh and London film festivals a couple of times and it’s been great to see films that have yet to get distributors or are small foreign films. I definitely want to find more diverse stories in general in 2015 – whether their books or films.
