My Favourite Christmas Things

Now in my family we don’t have many traditions or anything when it comes to Christmas. This is probably because my family is ridiculously small – if we don’t have friends round for Christmas dinner it’s just me, my mum and my gran. But there are something’s I love about Christmas even if it’s a small affair.

Putting up the Christmas tree
This has always been “my job” at Christmas. Even when I was little I’d always decorate the tree. When I was at Uni, my mum would do it because I’d only get home a few days before Christmas but the last few years I’ve been home I’ve done it and putting together the tree (we have a fake one) and decorating it is what makes me feel all Christmasy.

Favourite Christmas Film
We don’t have any Christmas films we have to watch each Christmas but the one that I will stop and watch if or rather when it’s on TV is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Michael Caine is great in it, Rizzo the rat is my absolute favourite and the songs are so catchy.

Now I’m not saying the fact that you get presents at Christmas though that’s pretty cool and I know that as soon as you get into your late teens/early twenties there’s nothing you really want that you can’t get yourself so it’s not like your presents are a surprise. I mean, buying presents for other people. I love deciding what presents to get for friends and family, I love thinking about their likes and dislikes and what sort of thing they’d really appreciate. I definitely like giving presents more rather than receiving them.

Favourite Christmas Song
I do like Christmas music, as long as it doesn’t start playing in shops in October! There’s some amazing Christmas songs the jump up and don’t and shout along to ones like Slade’s Merry Christmas and the softer ones like Do They Know It’s Christmas but my absolute favourite is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl. I just love it a ridiculous amount, I think it’s because it’s not super happy and cheesy but not too depressing either.
