Top Ten Tuesday is a feature run by BrokeAndBookish each week – I’m thinking I might not take part every week but just see if a week takes my fancy. This week is all about music and books and I’ve taken the idea of songs you’d like to see turned into a book and run with it.
You Don’t Own Me – Grace feat. G-Eazy
I could imagine this song becoming a book about a young person who gets out of an abusive relationship and realises that they deserve to be happy. Side note: this is currently my favourite song.
Tonight Tonight – Hot Chelle Rae
This would be like a party book. Maybe the story is all set over one night, crazy things happen and the lead isn’t sure if they’ll ever get that job or into that college that they desperately want but it doesn’t matter that one night.
Hello – Adele
It would be easy to say this is about a romantic relationship but in my mind I’ve always seen it as about a lost friendship. Friendships can be just as important as romantic relationships, so seeing the breakdown of a deep and important friendship in a novel could be heart-breaking.
Bad Reputation – Joan Jett
Can I just have a book about a bunch of teenage rebel girls who are in a biker gang? They look out for each other, won’t take any nonsense from anyone and no matter how tough they may appear, they are soft and caring around each other and towards those who deserve it.
Echo – Jason Walker
This song would probably turn into a very sad book. This guy is all alone, how did he get like that? Maybe he lost everyone he loved, maybe he is locked away from everyone, either physically or mentally? Just this song would probably end up being a tough book to read. Side note, is any of you know the character Aaron Livesy, this song sums him up perfectly.
Kidz – Take That
I always imagine this song could be a great dystopian story. The government is corrupt and controlling and it’s the kids who are the ones who stand up and fight. Whenever I hear this song I can see I big battle on a city streets in my head.
Rock & Roll Queen – The Subways
This song makes me think about a group of women on the wrong side of the law, maybe con artists or gangsters and they are totally in charge of everything and everyone. Then there’s a guy who’s would do anything for them and they kind of keep him around because they like the attention.
Good To You – Marianas Trench and Jessica Lee
This would be a great love story. The guy is just trying to be enough for the girl, and to show her that they would be good for each other and he’d always put her first. She’s not sure about it because she’s not sure who she is anymore. It could be an epic love story.
Supergirl – Suzie McNeil
I see this song being a book about a young teen starlet who’s on stage performing and loving every minute even though she’s sometimes a bit of a disaster in her everyday life.
Take a Hint – Victoria Justice and Elizabeth Giles
While this song is from a TV show so you can kind of already see the scenario play out, I still think it would be amazing book. The book would be able to cover rape culture, feminism and sexism and it’s such a good way at showing that when a woman says no, she means no.
So do you think any of these songs would make great books? And what about some of the songs you love, do you ever think of stories for them in your head when you’re listening to them?
