I’m not sure where I first heard this song but I’m pretty sure I loved it from the first time I heard it.
I love Tracy Chapman’s vocals and how the song is mostly made up of her voice and a guitar, but then at the chorus it gets bigger and bolder with the drums kicking in properly.
Fast Car is a song about a working-class girl, looking for a better life. It’s an optimistic song, especially the chorus which I always feel like belting out at the top of my lungs. Fast Car makes me both melancholy and hopeful when I hear it. I love the lyrics, the sense of hope they have and the passion behind them.
There’s been so many covers of Fast Car, one of the more recent and popular ones was by house band Jonas Blue which I do enjoy but there’s nothing that can beat the original in this case. I think Fast Car has become so popular with artists because of its message. That while it speaks of tough times, the confidence of the singer as they believe that their future will be better is infectious.
This song is absolutely amazing; just hearing the acoustic guitar at the beginning means I won’t be skipping it on the playlist. Great pick!
Definitely! It’s a song I have to listen to all the way through. I’ve driven home listening to it on the radio before and then sat in my car in the garage listening to it because I couldn’t leave it till it was finished.
omg i loved tracy chapman and this album when it was out. i was obsessed with it! great choice!
Thanks! 🙂 I have to say I’ve never listened to the album this song was on, will have to rectify that soon!
I haven’t heard Tracy Chapman in years. Her sound brings me back. 🙂
I love it when an artist does that 🙂
