Films of 2019

Here are all the films I’ve watched this year. My main film-related goal for this year, as it’s been for the past three years, is to watch 52 Films by Women (both directors and screenwriters). You can find out more about what I’m watching on my Twitter or Letterboxd.

Without further ado, here’s what I’m watching in 2019! Film titles in bold are films I saw at the cinema and films with an asterisk are rewatches. Any title with a hyperlink goes to its review – whether that’s here on my blog or on Jumpcut Online which I contribute to.

  1. Good luck! The only one of those movies I’ve ever seen is Anna Karenina. This year new to me movies I’ve seen are BlacKkKlansman, The Little Stranger, and A Simple Favor and they were all pretty great.

  2. That’s a great goal to achieve, best of luck! I really loved The Favourite, I thought it was the best film of 2018. But I did not think much of Anna Karenina or The Duchess. I thought the former was a particularly bad adaptation of the great novel. If I may, I would recommend films from this list https://dbmoviesblog.wordpress.com/2016/09/28/girl-power-20-great-book-to-film-adaptations/. These films either have women directors or women authors – I know, not screenwriters, but sometimes they are the same 🙂

    1. Ooh thanks for the list of recommendations! I’ll definitely check them out.
Yes I liked The Duchess more than Anna Karenina – though I haven’t read the book so can’t comment on it as an adaptation, I did find how it was often set up like a theatre production rather odd
